Arkansas Culpepper Archives
Cleveland (Dorsey) County
County History and Geography
In the Timberlands Region of southern Arkansas, Cleveland
County was originally named Dorsey County in 1873, but the name was
changed to Cleveland in 1885. It was reorganized from the four neighboring
counties of Bradley, Dallas,
Jefferson, and Lincoln. Its county seat, Rison, is on
US-79, about 60 miles south of Little Rock. Cleveland is bounded by the
counties of Jefferson, Lincoln,
Drew, Bradley, Calhoun and
Dallas.
