Floyd County
History
In the Ridge and
Valley Region of Georgia,
Floyd County was formed in 1832 from Cherokee County. Its county seat,
Rome, is on
US-411 about 65 miles northwest of Atlanta and 65 miles south of Chattanooga,
TN. Floyd is bordered by the Georgia counties of
Chattooga, Gordon,
Bartow and Polk and the Alabama county of
Cherokee.
The Culpeppers of Floyd County lived in an area adjacent to and spilling over
into Gordon County, so also check the Gordon County
Archives for records on this family.
