History

In the Piedmont  Region of Georgia, Monroe County was formed in 1821 as an original county from the Creek Session of 1821. Its county seat, Forsyth, is on I-75 about 60 miles south of Atlanta and 20 miles north of Macon. Monroe is bordered by the counties of Butts, Jasper, Jones, Bibb, Crawford, Upson and Lamar.
