Jackson County
History
In the Great Plains
Country of southwestern Oklahoma,
Jackson County was formed in 1907 from
Greer County. Its county seat,
Altus, is on
US-62 about 130 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. Jackson is bordered by the Oklahoma counties of
Harmon, Greer,
Kiowa and Tillman; and by the Texas counties of Hardeman and
Wilbarger.

Census Records
A special
thanks to Pat Roberts for transcribing all of our Oklahoma Census records.
Oklahoma was
opened to white settlers with the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. The
earliest extant census for Oklahoma Territory is for 1900, and Oklahoma
Territory became a state in 1907. No Culpeppers
have been found in any Jackson County censuses prior to 1910.

Burials
Boggy Cemetery
Jackson County, Oklahoma
Directions: From Eldorado, turn south on Cemetery
Road. Go to the first paved road (about 1/2 mile) turn East on that road.
Follow the road approximately 8 miles to Boggy Cemetery. (The road will
curve and make several sharp turns, stay on the paved road.)

Jun 2006: "I am sending the Ballard and Fancher listing from this
cemetery... I have been told that Ruth Fancher Culpepper had some
siblings. One that I am almost certain of is Lonley Travis Fancher
(below). He was known as "Trav". The Wiley D Ballard listed is the
grandfather that gave Ruth Fancher her name so with this information I am
assuming he is the father of Daisy Lavina Ballard Fancher . I am also
wondering if Sarah J Ballard 1856-1944 could be wife to Wiley D.
