History

In northwestern South Carolina, Anderson District was formed in 1826 from Pendleton District. In 1868, it was redesignated Anderson County. Its county seat, the town of Anderson, is just south of I-85, about 30 miles SSW of Greenville, and 90 miles NW of Columbia. Anderson County is bordered by the South Carolina counties of Oconee, Pickens, Greenville and Abbeville, and the Georgia counties of Hart and Elbert.
