History

In northwestern South Carolina and spanning both the Blue Ridge and Piedmont regions, Pickens District was formed in 1828 from the Pendleton District, and in 1868, it was designated Pickens County. Its county seat, the town of Pickens is about 20 miles west of Greenville and 105 miles northwest of Columbia. Pickens County is bordered by the South Carolina counties of Greenville, Anderson and Oconee, and the North Carolina county of Transylvania.
