County History and Geography
Bastrop County was formed in 1836
from the municipality of Mina. In the Oakwoods and Blacklands Prairie Regions, its county seat, Bastrop
is about 30
miles southeast of Austin. Bastrop County is bordered by the counties of Lee,
Fayette,
Caldwell, Travis and
Williamson.
