County History and Geography
In the High Plains
Region of Texas, at the edge of the Big Bend area,
Ector
County was formed in 1881 (organized 1891) from
Tom Green
County. Its county seat, Odessa,
is about 240 miles east of El Paso and 120 miles south of Lubbock. Ector is bordered
by the counties of Andrews, Midland, Crane and
Winkler.
