County History and Geography

In the Oakwoods and Prairies Region of central Texas, Erath County was formed in 1856 (organized 1866) from Bosque and Coryell Counties. Its county seat, Stephenville, is on US-377 about 65 miles SW of Fort Worth. Erath is bordered by the counties of Palo Pinto, Hood, Somervell, Bosque, Hamilton, Comanche and Eastland.
