Hays County

County History and Geography

On the Edwards Plateau of central Texas, Hays County was formed in 1848 from Travis County. Its county seat, San Marcos, is on I-35, about 30 miles north of San Antonio and 40 miles south of Austin. Hays is bordered by the counties of Travis, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Comal and Blanco.
