Refugio County
County History and Geography
On the lower Gulf Coast in
the Coastal Prairies region, Refugio County was formed in 1836 as an
original Texas county. The town of Refugio, the county's seat of
government and largest urban center, is thirty-five miles north of Corpus
Christi. Refugio County is bounded the counties of
San Patricio, Bee,
Goliad, Victoria,
Calhoun and Aransas as
well as by Hynes and Copano bays off the Gulf of Mexico.
