County History and Geography
In the Oakwoods and
Piney Woods Regions of east Texas, Wood
County was formed in 1850 from Van
Zandt
County. Its county seat,
Quitman,
is midway between I-20 and I-30, about 75 miles east of Dallas. Wood is bordered by the counties
of Hopkins, Franklin, Camp,
Upshur, Smith,
Van Zandt and Rains.
