They moved to Georgia about 1784 and were soon followed by Anna and Richard. Reuben was an ordained minister and was at one time a member of Mars Hill, Baptist Church, Oconee Co., Georgia.1
Biography Carole Williams wrote on 20 Apr 2013:
REUBEN MC KLEROY and his wife Christiana were married in Wake Co., N.C. 4/1776; he served as a Private under Captain Wood and Col. Malmady, "a Frenchman" in the N.C. Militia, while a resident of Wake Co.,N.C. Pension application not only furnished these bits of information but the fact that Reuben and Richard Hartsfield Richard Hartsfield, neighbors in Wake Co. rescued Reuben's brother JOHN MC KLEROY John A. McElroy from "irons"-John had been captured by the British and Tories and imprisoned. Both Richard Hartsfield and Reuben served together and were in a skirmish with the British or Tories at Cross Creek, N.C., and at the Battle of Guiford Court House, N.C. Reuben died 2/12/1820 in Jones Co.,Ga., and Christiana, b. ca. 1759, was alive in 1851 when her pension application was granted. She lived in Harris Co.,Ga. and her son Nathan McKleroy and her daughter Rebecah made depositions, together with William Hartsfield William Hartsfield, son of Richard then living in Harris Co. in support of Christiana's claim. Mary Sims Mary Hartsfield, who was b. 4/17/1774 in Wake County, also filed an affadavit in support of the claim, noting that Mary as a young child remembered Reuben and Christiana when they first married, before any children were born; that Mary's mother Anna Temple McElroy was the sister of Reuben McElroy; that Mary's family followed Reuben McElroy's family to Wilkes and Oglethorpe Cos., Ga., and lived for years as neighbors...4
