Obituary*2 Oct 2008 Mrs. Mattie Lou Culpepper, age 85, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008, at her residence in Lawrence. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Larry Laird and Rev. Tommy Anderson officiated. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest handled arrangements. Mrs. Culpepper was a native and a lifelong resident of Newton County. She was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Culpepper was preceded in death by her husband, Conny Admiral Culpepper; son, Jimmy Dale Culpepper; daughter, Shirley Hollingsworth; her parents, Billy and Rosie Gibbs; two sisters, Ollie Crimm and Mary Lou Gibbs; and three brothers, Thomas Gibbs, Marvin Gibbs and Clarence Gibbs. Survivors include her four daughters, Jeanette Stephens and husband, Robert of Lawrence, Louise Morgan of Lawrence, Brenda Jones and husband, Ritchie of Pearl and Pam Pace of Lawrence; one son, David Culpepper and wife, Jo Ann of Lisman, AL; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Glen Culpepper, Danny Stephens, Travis Stephens, Scotty White, Perry Luke, Mark Horn and Chris Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Culpepper and Michael Culpepper.2

     Survivors include his wife, Patricia Culpepper; a daughter, Rex Anne Culpepper; two sons, John Culpepper and Michael Culpepper; a granddaughter, Elena Culpepper, all of Magnolia; his mother, Mattie Lou Culpepper of Lake; four sisters, Brenda Jones of Pearl, Jeanette Stephens of Lake, Pam Pace of Lake and Louise Morgan of Conehatta; a brother, David Culpepper of Butler, Ala; and a number of nieces and nephews.1

Biography* Obituary:
     ALBANY — The funeral service of Frances Jones Culpepper, 95, of 2823 Gillionville Rd., who died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Evergreen Assisted Living, will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, with the Rev. Bobby Harrell will officiate.
     A native of Sumter Co., GA, Mrs. Culpepper had resided in Lee County for 51 years prior to moving to Albany in July of 2001. She is survived by her son, Colonel William L. deVane, U.S. Army (Ret.) of Albany; a daughter, Phyllis deVane Smith of Macon; and a stepdaughter, Eunice Culpepper Vining of Jonesboro. She is further survived by four grandchildren, who are Mark Davis deVane of Chicago, IL, Kathryn deVane Thomas of Killen, TX, Todd E. Hutchens of Lakeland, FL, and Holly Lynn Hall of Macon; and 11 great-grandchildren.
     Her parents were the late Oscar Boyd Jones and Irene Sessions Jones of Americus. Five sisters preceded Frances in death. They were Louise Jones, Gladys Culpepper, Thelma Brannon, Ruth Barlow, and Ida Chapman, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Elizabeth deVane.
     Frances, with her late husband, William Keith Culpepper, was instrumental in the planning and conduct of Lee County 100th Centennial celebration in 1974. She was primarily a homemaker for the family. She was instrumental in the building of the gazebo in Leesburg and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leesburg for 49 years.2
