On the Gulf coast in the Panhandle Region of Florida (aka Redneck Riviera), Gulf County was formed in 1925 from Calhoun County. Its county seat, Port St. Joe, is on US-98 about 80 miles southwest of Tallahassee and 125 miles east of Pensacola. Gulf is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and the counties of Bay, Calhoun, Liberty and Franklin.
