On the Gulf coast in the Panhandle Region of Florida (aka the Redneck Riviera), Okaloosa County was formed in 1915 from Santa Rosa and Walton Counties. Its county seat, Crestview, is on I-10 about 40 miles east of Pensacola. Okaloosa includess the popular beaches of Destin and Fort Walton, and is bordered by the Florida counties of Santa Rosa and Walton, and the Alabama counties of Escambia and Covington.
