In the Panhandle Region of Florida, Washington County was formed in 1825 from Jackson and Walton counties. In 1913, the southern part of Washington was split off to form Bay County. Its county seat, Chipley, is on I-10 about 40 miles south of Dothan, AL and 70 miles west of Tallahassee. Washington is bordered by the counties of Walton, Holmes, Jackson and Bay.
