What's New?

Final Update. Our final update of this site was August, 2020. With this update, our information on living folks has been scaled back. If you are the oldest living generation in your family, you may find you are only listed under the names of your deceased parents. And your children and grandchildren may be missing altogether. This was a necessary change, as I'm no longer able, due to age and health, to maintain all these many living folks. You can still find them, as of 2017, here. I appreciate everyone who has helped, since I first began my research in 1976. Thanks to each of you.

Descendants of John Culpepper & Nancy Gillespie. Our site still includes more than 18,000 descendants of the daughters of John Culpepper and Nancy Gillespie, as well as many descendants of the daughters of Benjamin Culpepper of SC, and of Joseph Culpepper, the Sheriff of Pike County, GA.

Other website news.
Culpepper Connections was first launched in 1998 by Warren L. Culpepper. Originally, it was based on the research of Lew Griffin, who had been researching the Culpepper family since 1976. Over the years Warren Culpepper made significant contributions to our research. Warren retired from the project in 2014. Lew Griffin continues to keep this site online, but new information is no longer being added. April 19th, 2020 was Culpepper Connections' 22nd Anniversary. Our thanks to all of our contributors.

DNA Project: The Culpepper DNA project has over 150 members and has confirmed many of our ancestral theories while changing a few others. We've learned that 80% of Caucasian Culpeppers descend from a common ancestor, and we have developed unique genetic signatures for more than 20 family branches.

Historical Records, Theories and Legends: Historical documents, treatises, biographies, origin of and variations on the name, and theories and debunked legends concerning the early Colepepers and Culpepers of England, Barbados and Virginia.

Historical Places in England. During the 13th through 17th centuries in England, the Culpeper family enjoyed considerable prominence in the southeastern counties of Kent and Sussex. Many impressive church monuments and grand estates still stand today bearing witness to the Culpeper's place in English history.

Culpepper Linkage to European Notables. Our  research suggests that most living Culpeppers descend from a 16th century Englishman, William Culpeper of Hunton and Wigsell and his wife, Cicely Barrett. Through this couple, modern-day Culpeppers directly descend from:
