Burial*circa 15 Mar 1894 His body was interred circa 15 Mar 1894 at Haralson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Haralson, Coweta Co., Georgia.1
Biography* James Culpepper's birth was recorded in the Family Bible of his sister Mrs. I. W. (Sarah A. B. Culpepper) Sims: _________________________James D. Culpepper Born _________________________23. February, 1829
There is some question about whether or not the middle initial should be a "D." or "B." In the Bible record of his birth and death, his name is recorded as "James D." However in the 1850 census and in his marriage record, he was listed as "James B." Mrs. T. R. (Sarah Murphy) Wainscott, in a 23 Aug 1977 letter, listed him as "James Benjamin." His tombstone lists "James D." so that must be correct.
James was first noted with his parents in the 1830 Crawford Co., GA census and this is where he is presumed to have been born. Unfortunately, the widowed Nancy (Corley) Culpepper has not been found with her family in the 1840 census but since Joel Culpepper is believed to have died in Crawford Co., GA in Dec 1839, the family is presumed to have been living in Crawford Co., GA until that time. Some time before 1850, James moved with his mother to Coweta Co., GA where the family has been found in the 1850 census and where James apparently remained for the rest of his life. He was noted with his wife and young family in the 1870 census of Senoia, Coweta Co., GA. He was a shoemaker with real estate valued at $150 and personal property valued as $265. Unfortunately, James has not been located in the 1880 census and the 1890 census burned but, based on the obituary which follows, he remained in Coweta Co., GA.
The following death notice is from the Griffin Weekly News and Sun 30 Mar 1894: Haralson, GA, March 23 -- All Haralson mourns the death, last Wednesday night, of one of our highly esteemed citizens, James D. Culpepper. Mr. C. was for 40 years a consistent and honored member of the Methodist church at this place.... For many years he ran a tannery and hide shop at this place.... Mr. C. was a bright Master Mason, a true Christian, an honest upright man. His place will be hard to fill in our community.

Daniel Culpepper

Male, #32283, (30 Jan 1831 - 19 Dec 1862)
Father*Joel Culpepper of Crawford Co., GA
Mother*Nancy Corley
Birth*30 Jan 1831 Daniel was born at Crawford Co., Georgia, on 30 Jan 1831.
Death of Father6 Dec 1839 His father Joel Culpepper of Crawford Co., GA died on 6 Dec 1839 at Crawford Co., Georgia
Death of Mother22 Mar 1860 His mother Nancy Corley died on 22 Mar 1860 at Coweta Co., Georgia
Civil War*1862 He served in the War Between the States in 1862

Probably Daniel Culpepper, Pvt. Co. "F" 39th Inf Regt. Ala. (Vol.), who enlisted 5 May 1862 in Chattahoochee Co., GA and died 19 Dec 1862 in Chattanooga, TN from disease. A Mary J. Culpepper filed a claim 16 Feb 1863.
Death*19 Dec 1862 He died at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., Tennessee, on 19 Dec 1862 at age 31.
Biography* Daniel's birth was recorded in the Family Bible of his sister, Mrs. I. W. (Sarah A. B. Culpepper) Sims: _______________Daniel Culpepper Born _______________January 30, 1831
Daniel's parents were recorded in the 1830 census of Crawford Co., GA and Daniel is presumed to have been born there. Daniel's widowed mother has not been found in the 1840 census but since his father, Joel Culpepper, appears to have died in Crawford Co., GA in Dec 1839, the family was probably there until that time. Although Daniel's mother and brothers and sisters have been found in the 1850 census, Daniel has not been found in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas or Texas records. He would have been 19 years old. If he had already died, his death was not noted in his sister's Bible where the 1862 death of his brother, John, was noted. It is possible that Daniel was overlooked in his mother's house or was working nearby or visiting relatives when the 1850 census was taken. A 29 year old "Daniel C. Culpepper" born in Georgia was recorded (p. 614, #1400) in the 1860 census of Mobile Co., AL. He was listed as a blacksmith. But it is not known if this was Daniel, son of Joel. This Daniel has not been found in 1870 census records of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas or Texas. Possibly Daniel died during the Civil War but again, the death of his brother, John, was noted in 1862 and Daniel's death was not recorded. B. W. Dunn noted two references to a Daniel Culpepper in Civil War records: Culpepper, Daniel Pvt. Co. "F" 39th Inf Regt. Ala. (Vol.) Culpepper, Daniel C. Pvt. Co. "C" 2nd Bttn. Ala. Lgt. Arty.
Daniel C. Culpepper has been identified as Daniel Clark Culpepper from another family. The Daniel Culpepper that joined Co. "F" enlisted 5 May 1862 as a private in Chattahoochee Co., GA as did a Nathan Culpepper. They both died within the year. Daniel died 19 Dec 1862 in Chattanooga, TN from "disease" and Nathan died from mumps. Neither of these men has been identified. Could this have been Daniel, the son of Joel Culpepper? If so, a Mary J. Culpepper filed a claim 16 Feb 1863.

Biography* E. M. Culpepper's birth was recorded in the Family Bible of his sister, Mrs. I. W. (Sarah A. B. Culpepper) Sims: _________________________E. Milton Culpepper Born _________________________31. December. 1833
Elijah's parents were recorded in the 1830 census of Crawford Co., GA and this is where Elijah is thought to have been born. His widowed mother has not been found in the 1840 census but since, Elijah's father, Joel, is thought to have died in Crawford Co., GA in Dec 1839, the family is believed to have remained in Crawford Co., GA until then. In 1856, Elijah married and he was recorded as a merchant in the 1860 census of Coweta Co., GA. He had real estate valued at $150 and personal property valued at $1310.
E. M. Culpepper was a wheelwright with Company B, 1st Reg. GA Cavalry during the Civil War, and he died in service after June, 1864, the date of the last record in his Confederate service file. His death was not noted in his sister's Bible. A granddaughter, Mrs. W. C. (Edith Culpepper) Turpin, wrote 31 Aug 1978: He was killed in the Civil War near Macon - was in the cavalry & a survivor who was near him in the battle said the order was given for every fourth(?) man to dismount & step forward - The one to whom this order applied, hesitated & my grandfather took his place & was killed.
