Pickens County
History
Pickens County was
created in 1820 from Indian lands. Located in the western part of the state, it
is part of the Southeastern Plains Region. Pickens is bordered by the counties
of Lamar, Fayette,
Greene, Tuscaloosa and
Sumter, and the Mississippi counties
of Lowndes and Noxubee. The county seat, Carrollton, is about 30 miles SSE of
Columbus, MS and 40 miles west of Tuscaloosa.
