In the Crossroads 
region of central Louisiana, 
Avoyelles Parish was formed in 1807 as an original 
parish. Its parish seat, 
Marksville, is about 80 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. Avoyelles is bordered by the 
parishes of La Salle, Catahoula, Concordia, Point Coupee, St. Landry, Evangeline 
and Rapides.
