Obituary*26 Apr 2018 CHESTERFIELD, S.C. — Jack D. Culpepper, 59, of Chesterfield, S.C., suffered a fatal heart attack while fishing with friends on April 21, 2018.
Born on March 2, 1959, in Americus/Sumter County, Ga., Jack spent his childhood years in Butler/Taylor County, Ga., where he excelled in sports and academics, graduating second in his class in 1977. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably for five years.
Jack received his bachelor of science in forest resource management from the University of Georgia in 1996, graduating magna cum laude. In 1998, he earned a master’s degree in forest resource management and musiness.

Since 2003,Jack was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. For the past 11 years, he served as rorester for the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge in McBee, S.C., and the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack Culpepper in 1998. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Nettie Jo and Lamar Perry of Ila; sisters, Myra C. (Philip) Morris of Athens, Pat Culpepper of Decatur, Jolyn Culpepper of Ila; niece, Abigail M. (David) Russell of Chattanooga, Tenn; nephew, Joseph P. Morris, Minneapolis, Minn; and great-niece, Rosie Russell of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Campus View Church of Christ in Athens. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from11:00 a.m.until service time.

Mrs. Culpepper was a packer for Swift Packing House, East St. Louis, Ill. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, Ill; the Altar Society; the Rosary Society; and the Collinsville Senior Citizens.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Culpepper, who died Dec. 7, 1973; her parents, Anton and Julia, nee Schloemer, Kleine; and two brothers. Surviving are a daughter, Judy (Walt) Unger of Maryville, Ill; three grandchildren, Connie Crome, Janet Sass and Susan Byer; and six great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made in the form of Masses or to Ss. Peter and Paul School, Collinsville, Ill. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the funeral home.
