Commending Mr. and Mrs. Vamus Culpepper on the occasion of
their 57th wedding anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on August 21, 1938, Thelma Ruth Hightower and Vamus
Culpepper were united in matrimony, and this special couple
will celebrate the wondrous occasion of their 57th wedding
anniversary on August 21, 1995; and

WHEREAS, they are both natives of Harris County, Georgia,
and have resided throughout their long-standing marriage in
the Pine Mountain area, where they are well-known as
involved, caring members of their community; and

WHEREAS, they are the proud and loving parents of ten
children who have achieved personal independence and
professional success, and they are blessed with having 28
grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren who have been
fortunate to experience their love and understanding; and

WHEREAS, they have demonstrated the devotion and
consideration vital to a loving partnership and have
instilled in their children self-esteem, integrity, and
patience while inspiring them to show compassion, charity,
and good will toward others; and

WHEREAS, both members of this charming couple have been
devoted members of the Bethany Baptist Church where Thelma
Ruth has directed the choir and been the Sunday School
secretary and Vamus has served as a Deacon; and their
constant support and dedication have contributed
substantially to the life of this church; and

WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the rare accomplishment
of maintaining a loving and vibrant marriage of long
duration be a properly recognized and celebrated.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate
Mr. and Mrs. Vamus Culpepper on the momentous occasion of
their 57th wedding anniversary and express to them their
best wishes for continued health and happiness.

Obituary*14 Sep 2016 Vamus Culpepper, 101, passed away Wednesday. He was born June 1, 1915 in Chipley, Georgia to the late, Will and Lottie Culpepper. Local survivors include Rosa (Wesley) Hall, Patricia (Dennis) Zachery, Decatur, GA; and Annette Culpepper, Lithonia, GA; The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday at 1:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church. Rev. James E. Hightower will officiate.1

Obituary*27 Oct 2016 Bethna Dennis Culpepper died on October 20, 2016, after battling lung cancer for almost a year.

Beth was born on January 18, 1935 in New Augusta, MS, in the family home in the same room her mother was born. She was the daughter of Wilmer Dennis and Loucile Ikerd Dennis.

Beth was graduated from Mississippi Southern College (now the University of Southern Mississippi) with a degree in English. She then taught school in Moss Point where she met her roommate's brother Moody Manning Culpepper who was serving in the United States Navy. They eloped on June 8, 1958. While he finished his degree in civil engineering at Mississippi State University she worked for the MSU Registrar and later taught school in Starkville.

Beth was a longtime resident of Vicksburg supporting many community and cultural activities. She retired from the Warren County Vicksburg Schools after teaching English for 30 years and also serving as yearbook faculty advisor. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, she was a part of the Faith in Practice Sunday School Class, and Presbyterian Women receiving an Honorary Life Membership. She served on the board of the Warren County-Vicksburg Library for many years. She was a Salvation Army volunteer and Master Gardener. She and Moody were active Mississippi State University supporters.

Beth faithfully cared for Moody as he suffered with Parkinson's disease for many years. He predeceased her on April 26, 2016.

Her survivors include her sister, Cynthia Biegler; her brother, Murray Dennis (Lonie); her sister-in-law, Pat Schiffbauer; her children, Gay Drake (Joe) and Mike Culpepper (Joe McDermott); and her granddaughter, Anna Drake McIntyre (Thomas).

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to those who cared for her in her last months.

Funeral services will be at First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg, 1501 Cherry Street, on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until time of the service.1
