Whereas Joseph Culpepper of Norfolk Co purchased in his lifetime from Martha Mackie a tract of land for £40 but before a deed was made he died leaving 2 children, the aforesaid Robert (Rachel?) and Sophia Culpepper, wife of David Culpepper, and 3 grandchildren, the 3 Etheridges mentioned. So Mackie deeds a tract of land between Portsmouth and Suffolk to these heirs, 16 acres. Wit: Andrew Kidd, Benjamin Culpepper, Nicholas Jordan, Joseph Kinder.5

2 Apr 1799 -- Deed Bk 37, p 220. Martha Mackie, executrix of Andrew Mackie of Isle of Wight Co, VA, to Robert (Rachel?) Culpepper, David Culpepper, and Sophia his wife, and Joseph Etheridge, Moses Etheridge, and Sarah Etheridge, who are infants of Norfolk Co. Whereas Joseph Culpepper of Norfolk Co purchased in his lifetime from Martha Mackie a tract of land for £40 but before a deed was made he died leaving 2 children, the aforesaid Robert (Rachel?) and Sophia Culpepper, wife of David Culpepper, and 3 grandchildren, the 3 Etheridges mentioned. So Mackie deeds a tract of land between Portsmouth and Suffolk to these heirs, 16 acres. Wit: Andrew Kidd, Benjamin Culpepper, Nicholas Jordan, Joseph Kinder.4

Research note*24 May 2004 David was probably a grandson of Robert Culpepper Jr. of Norfolk, but which of Robert Jr.'s sons was his father is unclear.

Since David didn't mention his children by name in his will they are largely unknown. Perhaps Norfolk tax records around the time of his death would shed more light on them. Or their father might have been mentioned in their Norfolk death record, if any.

David was probably not a son of Robert Jr.'s son Daniel Culpepper, since he was not mentioned in Daniel's will.
